About Horizon Crane & Rigging – Engineered Lifting Solutions for the USA
Horizon Crane & Rigging is the official U.S. distributor and engineering partner for modular spreader beams and custom below-the-hook lifting solutions. From our Chicagoland headquarters we serve contractors, industrial plants, wind energy developers, precast manufacturers and infrastructure projects across all 50 states – delivering engineered rigging equipment that is safe, compliant and ready to lift.
Who We Are
Horizon Crane & Rigging was built by engineers who spent years on real jobsites watching riggers wrestle with one-off, non-modular beams that cost too much, weighed too much and couldn’t adapt when the lift plan changed. We set out to fix that.
Today we design, manufacture and supply a complete line of modular spreader beams – the RA13, RA22, RA60 and RA110 – alongside fully custom lifting frames, traverses, lifting points and rigging accessories tailored to each client’s scope of work. Every beam we ship is engineered to ASME B30.20 standards, proof-tested to 125% of rated capacity, and delivered with the certification documentation your safety team expects.
What We Do
Our work goes far beyond selling hardware. Our U.S.-based engineering team supports every project through:
- Lift plan review and optimization – verifying load paths, sling angles and rigging configurations before your crew ever reaches the jobsite.
- Method statement support – translating engineering calculations into field-ready documents that your safety officer and general contractor can sign off on.
- Custom design-and-build – when an off-the-shelf beam won’t do, we design from scratch using our in-house CAD and finite element analysis tools.
- On-site technical assistance – our engineers travel to jobsites across the United States to supervise first lifts, train rigging crews and troubleshoot in real time.
- Emergency response – we operate a 24/7 support line for clients whose projects can’t wait for regular business hours.
Why Modular?
A conventional fixed-length spreader beam is a single-purpose tool. A modular spreader beam, by contrast, is a system. By combining strut sections, end fittings and link plates in different configurations, a single Horizon beam can support dozens of lift scenarios – long loads, wide loads, offset centers of gravity, multi-point picks, tandem lifts. This reduces your rigging inventory, lowers freight costs and gives your project managers the flexibility to respond to scope changes without waiting weeks for new hardware.
Industries We Serve
Horizon spreader beams are at work across nearly every heavy-lift sector in the United States, including:
- Wind energy – nacelle, tower section and blade lifts for onshore wind farms.
- Oil, gas and petrochemical – module lifts, vessel installations, turnaround maintenance.
- Construction and infrastructure – bridge segments, precast concrete panels, structural steel.
- Manufacturing and fabrication – heavy machinery installation, shop handling, plant relocation.
- Marine and shipyard – engine removal, hull section handling, dockside lifts.
- Utilities – transformer placement, power plant maintenance, substation builds.
Our Commitment to Safety
Lifting hardware is unforgiving. When a spreader beam fails, projects stop, insurance claims spike and – in the worst case – people get hurt. We refuse to compete on the basis of cutting corners. Every Horizon beam is:
- Engineered by licensed professional engineers to ASME B30.20 and BTH-1 standards.
- Manufactured from certified structural steel with full material traceability.
- Proof-load tested to 125% of working load limit with documented certification.
- Supplied with operator manuals, inspection checklists and rigging configuration guidance.
- Supported by ongoing re-inspection and recertification service throughout the beam’s service life.
We also provide lift training for your team – because even the best hardware fails when it’s used incorrectly.
Why Clients Choose Horizon
Clients who switch to Horizon spreader beams consistently tell us three things:
- Our engineers actually answer the phone. You talk to the person who can solve your problem, not a sales funnel.
- The beams arrive ready to work. Clear documentation, clear rigging diagrams, clear responsibilities.
- We flex when the job flexes. If the lift plan changes the week before pick day, we’re on the phone re-running calculations with your team.
